Mexico day two

This is me doing my first official job here at the guest house! A couple of the girls and I painted the main gathering room of the guest house. It needed quite a bit of touch up paint, but once we started patching, we realized that we had the wrong color of paint! We ended up repainting the entire main room (be flexible!).

After we finished the painting, we headed over to the construction site where a very talented group of men is working on a church. They laid the foundation and put up trusses and are finishing the roof while we are here. The church is setting up education and support for single mothers.

This was by far, the highlight of the day. After we checked out the construction site, we had to run over to another church to find out exactly what we were doing for the women and children's ministries the next day. We met with the wonderful pastor and talked with him about what he wanted us to do for the ladies. After we got our program worked out, we asked him if there was anyone in the community who had a very great need (his church is located on the old dump in the town). He told us there was a very old woman who had a blind son and she was in great need. We walked to her home and she was gracious enough to let us in. She began tidying up the table that was in the middle of the room. Her house was built of scraps and it had two rooms. The fact that we could all fit in the room was its own miracle. The photo makes it look deceptivley large. When the pastor explained that we were there to ask if there was anything that she needed she immediately exhibited the love of a mother and said her son needed money to get to another town for eye testing. This woman could have asked us for anything and she would have been justified. Her home was so tiny, her teeth were gone, they were so thin...she really could have asked for anything. She only wanted the money to get her blind son to the eye test. She is far too old to work and her son can't work because he is blind. They had been begging for pesos for weeks trying to get the money together to just get him to the appointment. They weren't even asking us for the money for the eye test! They just wanted to get the money to get him there! She was so very sweet and welcoming. We made sure they had what they needed for the test, the stay and to get him there. The coolest part of the visit with them was praying with them. What an honor. God filled that tiny shack.
