These last few months I have spent a lot of time with the Lord and have been really seeking His will. I have gone between being frustrated to having peace and everywhere in between. I trust God and I really do know that His ways are best and that He has a plan for our family.
Good friends of ours went to the Empowered to Connect Conference in Nashville recently. They had a great time and came back with great tools they are successfully putting into practice. They came back with something else too…the idea propagated by ETC that people should not adopt more than one, maybe two children who have experienced trauma. I was not at the conference myself, but I am working through the audio and just listened to the Coley’s speak. I have read the book and have worked through part of the Christian supplement. I have heard amazing things about Dr. Purvis and have heard that her methods bring healing and results and I am not doubting that for a minute, but the ENEMY can use ANYTHING for his purposes. He can twist things around and fear is one of his greatest weapons.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10
I am not the only one who was affected by this idea. There are several families who have expressed their concern about this theory and have QUESTIONED WHAT GOD HAS CALLED THEM TO DO. This is very dangerous territory as there is always worldly temptation to succumb to fear. I was encouraged by several mothers to many who reinforced my belief that we are not called to make our choices based on earthly ministry, but on what God is asking each of us to do.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
We need to encourage each other in this journey and not be encouraging fear and retreat. Satan hates the orphan and he would like nothing more than to see these sweet, precious children of God be left to fend for themselves and die. This road is not for the faint and we need God first and foremost to be our pillar, our strong shield. When we get weak, we need others to help lift us up. This is a battle and sometimes it will come from within…sometimes the fear within ourselves and sometimes within our ministries or other earthly wisdom. Jesus says that His sheep will know His voice. I encourage you to listen to HIS voice today, the only one that truly matters.
“This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

2 sweet words:
You make very good and VALID points - Walk by FAITH, Not sight or fear ;) Keep on keepin' on!!!
BLESSINGS!
Glad you posting again! I missed your words and thought provoking perspectives. I have not heard the conference talk, but I imagine that an arguement could be made for both points of view. I feel with one attachment challenged and developmentally delayed child, we have had to stretch ourselves to the limits and find a lot of new tool belts we didn't even know existed. Having all these resources, we are probably more capable of handling a second, but for our family, I think we would easily become overwhelmed while others may not be, I don't think you can make that sweeping generalization as each family is different
